Sita Seecharrun Harris is a British artist, writer and designer whose practice moves between watercolour, illustration, digital media and jewellery.

Born in Mauritius and based in Britain for 26 years, her work is shaped by island memory, migration, ecology and the changing relationship between people and landscape. She completed her Fine Arts degree specialising in Applied Art from College of Art, New Delhi.

Watercolour has become her principal language although she paints, draws and illustrates in a variety of mediums including digital. She works carefully, allowing transparent washes, paper texture and the movement of water to remain visible within the finished painting.

Her recent body of works explores the sea and vulnerable island environments, considering both their physical fragility and the memories they carry.

Alongside her visual practice, she is a widely published writer drawing inspiration upon Mauritian culture, Indian Ocean histories, African slavery, Indian indenture, folklore and questions of identity and belonging. She writes in English and French. She has worked in International Development and Humanitarian Aid for UN agencies after being a lecturer in Media & Communication at university and in a Teacher Training Institute.  She served as Creative Director with international advertising agencies in leading campaigns and branding.

"My watercolours explore the shifting relationship between people, landscape and nature using water. From the intimate memory of an island to the vastness of the sea. Through transparent layers, I allow water and pigments to retain their own evolution and movement, leaving space for memory, atmosphere and imagination.

My main aim is to feel free, go slow living, be more in tune with nature and just be who I am as a person. No frills. No mundanity. Share my knowledge and skills and support anyone in entrepreneurship without being enslaved to fake and social media.

Nothing remains fixed in the technique of watercolour, everything is always in motion, the water, the pigments and the gestures.

Watercolour is demanding; it does not forgive mistakes and remains very subtle. My background makes me take fancy and pursue many creative avenues.

I try to use my time smartly, be more creative and enjoy life !"
